Ponte Azzone Visconti

It was built between 1336 and 1338, by order of Azzone Visconti, to facilitate the connection between Lecco, Valsassina and the north with the Duchy of Milan.

Originally it was a structure with eight arches, with towers at the ends and a drawbridge. In 1349 and in 1354 were added to the arches to facilitate the flow of river water. The eleventh arch was built by Como in 1440.

The bridge was repeatedly tampered with to widen and reinforce it, and after these expansions has eighteen arches, two turrets to headlands and a drawbridge destroyed in 1799.
In the period of the Medeghino rule it was marred by Francesco Sforza II, but in 1609 the Count of Fuentes saw to do it restructure.

To date, the historic bridge, said Vecchio--deck, still allows entrance entrance to the city to those who arrive from Brianza, Como and Milan.
